Digitize as You Go

I think we’re all aware by now of how out of control digital media production is…

With our daily output outpacing yearly output in times past, analog traditions like the picture album have a strange imbalance to deal with, as Sarah See Andersen hilariously points out above; a handful of pictures of our ancestors, a couple hard drives for our kids.  As we do more on our computers, we produce more digital stuff, but we never get a good grasp on these intangible collections and before you know it, it’s ballooned out of control; out of sight, out of mind.

As someone with a Wacom tablet, I’ve produced my share of born-digital drawings, but nothing on the scale of what the iSketchnote would permit…

The iSketchnote is an iPad cover that houses your notepad and picks up your pen strokes; your drawings are digitized literally as you draw.

So crazy!  I don’t necessarily see the utility for pure note-taking, but as a drawing tool, I get it!  So often drawings are scanned for digital manipulation, so this eliminates that intermediary point, and allows for immediate, even live, sharing.  Useful for artists needing to satisfy their online audience’s need for instant gratification…

Of course, this would add to your digital clutter, basically recreating loose sheets of notes and doodles on your computer…  And when digital and analog are so intertwined, which takes primacy?  What will people be using each version for?  WHICH ARCHIVE WILL GET THE FIRST DUAL ANALOG/DIGITAL iSKETCHNOTE COLLECTION???

Aw, who am I kidding, I love this!  If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em!

So yes, that’s an iSketchnote Kickstarter video up there, and there are 15 days left to contribute, but don’t worry; they already have 650% of their original goal, so this product is definitely a reality by now.  There’s still a chance to get your own iSketchnote at a discounted Kickstarter price though…
